About Us

Lisa Lilenfeld, PhD

Dr. Lilenfeld is a graduate of Cornell University and received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Minnesota. She has more than 25 years of clinical, research and teaching experience. She is an expert in the treatment of eating disorders and anxiety (e.g., OCD, panic, social anxiety, phobias, generalized anxiety, public speaking anxiety) in adults and adolescents. She uses cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) which has the strongest research support for treating these conditions.

Since 1998, Dr. Lilenfeld has continuously provided clinical supervision and taught doctoral courses including psychopathology, CBT, clinical interviewing, the treatment of eating disorders, and exposure therapy for anxiety disorders. She was previously Associate Professor and Associate Director of Clinical Training at Georgia State University in Atlanta, and Professor of Clinical Psychology at the American School of Professional Psychology in Northern Virginia. She is currently Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology - Washington DC campus.

Dr. Lilenfeld is a Fellow of the Academy for Eating Disorders and served as President of the Eating Disorders Coalition for Research, Policy and Action. She is a member of the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), and the Eating Disorders Research Society (EDRS). She is an active contributor to the field with more than 50 publications and more than 100 national and international presentations.

Lawrence P Riso, PhD

Dr. Riso completed his PhD in clinical psychology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook and his clinical internship at Brown University School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in outpatient psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and was a founding member of the Pittsburgh Center for Cognitive Therapy. For over 25 years, Dr. Riso has treated adults and adolescents with anxiety, depression, and personality difficulties, and, couples/marriages with relationship distress.

Dr. Riso is an expert in both cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and emotion-focused psychotherapies such as schema therapy. In his efforts to provide the best care possible, he earned certifications in cognitive therapy, schema therapy, schema therapy for couples, and the cognitive behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy.

He held faculty positions at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Georgia State University, the University of Georgia, and the American School of Professional Psychology/Northern Virginia. He is currently Full Professor of Clinical Psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology – Washington DC campus. For more than two decades, Dr. Riso has taught courses in CBT, schema therapy, psychopathology, and couples/marital therapy. He is a scholar-practitioner with over 50 published works and he is the principal editor of the book, Cognitive Schemas and Core Beliefs in Psychological Problems: A Scientist-Practitioner Guide. He frequently conducts workshops for other mental health professionals and serves on the editorial boards of four scientific journals.

Dr. Riso is a Fellow of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT) and maintains memberships in the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies (ABCT), and the International Society for Schema Therapy (ISST).
