Depression

Cognitive therapy has the strongest research support in the literature for the treatment of depression.

Cognitions (i.e., thoughts and assumptions) impact mood and mood, in turn, impacts cognitions. Cognitive therapy seeks to methodically remediate stubborn negative thoughts, assumptions and life themes, so they are more functional and accurate.

We also offer mindfulness-bases therapies, which helps people become less reactive to their negative thoughts, and behavioral activation, which helps individuals to re-engage with their environment.

For persistent depression, which can last for several years, we offer the cognitive-behavioral analysis system of psychotherapy (CBASP) - specifically designed to treat chronic depression (sometimes called "depressive personality").

Personality And Relationship Problems

This encompasses habitual styles of thinking, feeling, and behaving.

Some personality styles (or "personality disorders") can interfere with the ability to function at work, in friendships, and in romantic relationships.

We apply CBT, schema therapy, and dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) for these difficult problems, such as obsessive-compulsive personality disorder and avoidant personality disorder.
